What to feel–A Paradox!!!

Today after coming home i was going to my room when i noticed something unusual in my balcony.

There was lump of dirt on the clothes’ wire  and some movement was going on inside.

My heart started beating rapidly and the very next moment i saw a purple sunbird flying away from it. I got super excited, called my mom to show her the bird in the book and waited for the sunbird to come back. She got curious too.I went to my room and got my camera.

We spent 45 mins. clicking and watching the bird go and come back with some nesting material and the process of nest-building..

Then, after all the adrenaline subsided i got utterly sad..sad because this is not a natural place for sunbirds to build nest. I got sad thinking there are no plants left for these beauties to nest.

                                             Purple Sunbird Making Nest..

Today so-called development has taken a toll on the nesting sites for many bird species. There are gardens in the high end bungalows but all they have are exotic plant species which are meant for beautification and are not at all suitable for the nesting of urban birds.

I stay at a place which used to have good vegetation three years back but today, the scenario of this place is just like any other concrete jungle.

When i came to live at this place, Indian Silverbill used to nest at my room’s window; after two years of nesting they are now gone.

Today, when a revolution is going on to save House Sparrow, i feel lucky that i get to see 6-7 sparrows daily!

There are two active nests of sparrows in my house since last two years and to adapt themselves to the drastically changing situation they are now breeding year long..

Besides two active nests of sparrow there is an active nest of Laughing Dove; pigeons nest now and then too.

Since last couple of days, few sparrows are coming to checkout the place where Silverbill used to nest but they are not able to get inside the closed window.

And today there was a new addition to my family of nesting birds – the purple Sunbird..

With this i request everybody reading this to plant trees near their surrounding and put  nest box for sparrows, keep a bowl of water in your balcony or any place where birds can drink water from it.

We Call it Adaptation!!!

It was just another day of our work and It was Raining heavily.

we were tired from the Search of  Reptiles and Amphibians  for the last 4 hours..

Then we came to a place and the Guard showed us something._MG_4840

One can see water flowing and few hazy things in the picture.

Well!! the water is flowing from a Check dam constructed on a flowing Tributary and the Hazy things are actually Fishes trying to Climb up the Check dam just to Survive..

AMAZED? SAD?

Well i was amazed first calling it Adaptation but later on i was Utterly depressed

All of them were Struggling to Climb up the Dam, many almost reaching the top and then falling back just to start the climb again.

Construction of One small Check Dam created a big question mark on the survival of this species. Is this Struggle really a part of their Life?

We Humans – the so called  most evolved species do all sorts of things in the name of Development, Water harvesting, and What not but do we really think of the impact our acts have on the lives of many species that inhabit the ecosystem.

THINK! ACT! before its TOO Late…

Ohm, Aastha and the other kid…

It was one the trips with my family where i had to do nothing but drive.

we went to Paniyari, a small village in Vyara district, Gujarat.

I took my Camera with me as i knew i will be needing it.

Time was going really slow and i had nothing to do.

I was sitting under a tree wondering what to do, and out of nowhere my nephews came running over to me and asking me to show photos in my camera.

After a while Ohm and Aastha along with other kid started playing and running here and there.

I took them to a walk nearby a water canal. It was fun walking with them and they really made my time fly away.

We were joined by more kids on the way who were really fascinated by my camera.

Atharva… I was having a tough time to pronounce the name correctly..
although its a pretty amazing name.

I took my nephews to a dance competition where i saw this kid..

Atharva, whom i thought to be a girl was nine months old and was continuously staring at my camera..

my friend started making faces to make him laugh and i couldn’t resist myself ..
the most amazing thing about Atharva was that he rarely cried .

it was very hot out there yet he never cried.. pretty amazing ATHARVA..
